To celebrate the launch of our next Well-Being program, we wanted to share a story about one of our participants to showcase the life-changing effects our program can have on an individual – and their entire family.
This well-being success story demonstrates the power of fitness and good nutrition, and how one person’s story can inspire change in so many.
Dana participated in our program in 2019. After losing more than 100 pounds over the course of a year using the tools learned from Well-Being, Dana has achieved tremendous success – but she didn’t stop there.
Throughout the process of her lifestyle transformation, Dana’s family also jumped on board. After seeing her mom’s success, Dana’s daughter started focus on her health transformation, and her son-in-law followed in their footsteps. Now, both her daughter and her son-in-law have lost 100 pounds each – making for over 300 pounds lost in just one family!
Read all about Dana and her family’s Well-Being journey below.
What brought you to the Well-Being Program and why was it appealing to you?
I first heard about the program from Dr. Allison Hull. After attending the Open House, I realized it was completely different from anything I had tried before. I was able to join the private Facebook group before I started the program and make new friends that had the same struggles as me. Having that support was the most appealing part for me.
What types of struggles have you dealt with while trying to lose weight? What have been your greatest obstacles?
My biggest struggle has been emotional eating. Through the Well-Being group, I have learned to use healthy detours to avoid this. Also saying out loud “I can have this, but I choose not to” has helped change my mindset. Most of the time my biggest obstacle has been my scale. It’s taken a long time to let that go. I’ve lost over 100 pounds but to me that isn’t my biggest accomplishment. I measure my success with my health and the things that I can do now that I couldn’t do two years ago.
What specific lifestyle changes did you learn about with Well-Being that are working for you?
First and foremost, I had to figure out why I was doing this and what my purpose was. My biggest “Why” was that I wanted to be a healthy influence for my family. I had to completely change my lifestyle.
Before I joined this program, I was severely obese. I had given up on thinking that I would ever feel good again — that being in pain was what the rest of my life was going to be like. But that all changed and now, I don’t even feel like the same person anymore. I gave up all the sugar and junk food and started exercising. I started with walking and now I’m doing bootcamp workouts and recently started kickboxing. Two years ago, I needed a scooter if I had to do much walking and now my 26-year-old daughter says she can’t keep up with me.
How did you get your family inspired and on board?
I think that my excitement and my success was what encouraged them to try this lifestyle. I’ve used what I’ve learned to teach them and I’ve showed them that if I can do it, so can they.
Do you have any tips for people who have tried countless diets and weight loss programs without lasting results?
The best advice I can give for anyone that is just getting started is remember why you’re doing this. Whether it’s to lose weight or to be healthier, remind yourself of that often. Do not compare your progress to anyone else’s! We’re all different.
The great part about the Well-being program is that you start out with baby steps. You begin with starting new healthy habits and learn about the science behind the keto and low carb lifestyle. When you learn why certain things do this or that, it’s much easier to stick with it. And, you have the full support of a doctor, dietician/nutritionist and a health coach, along with group fitness classes for all levels and a private Facebook group.
How has losing over 100 pounds changed the lives of you and your family?
My daughter and son-in-law have both lost over 100 pounds now, and my daughter has reversed her fatty liver disease. My dad has lost 55 pounds and stopped needing high blood pressure medication, and my mom has lost 35 pounds. Our family is now doing 5ks and obstacle course races together. From my big sister to my 5-year-old grandson, we’re all about having new adventures together now.
